I'll be doing the recap a little different this year. Since video is available for each race, there's really no need for me to type out a description of how it happened. You can watch the video if you want to see how the race played out.

100 Meter Dash
Sissonville's Connor Pritt had the top end speed to move up the field and into the lead with about 30 meters to go and pull away for the win in 11.02. Doddridge's Tommy Walters-Hickman was 2nd in 11.13 with Independence's Michael Hess in 3rd in 11.25. Independence took 3 of the top 6 spots. Anyone want to guess how the 4x100 went?

200 Meter Dash
Sissonville's Connor Pritt again closed well to take the win. His 21.86 is the 6th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Doddridge's Tommy Walters-Hickman was solidly in 2nd with a 22.16. Independence's Kaden Bradbury was 3rd with a 22.35. 4th through 7 were separated by just 0.08 with each under 22.60.

400 Meter Dash
This was a great race with the top 3 all cracking the Class AA All-Time Top 10. Sissonville's Connor Pritt just squeezed past Doddridge's Tommy Walters-Hickman with about 20 meters to go to snag the win in 48.71. That gives him the 3rd Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Walters-Hickman led most of the race and took the 2nd spot in 48.92, which gives him the 6th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Independence's Kaden Bradbury just about caught Walters-Hickman at the line, taking 3rd in 48.96, which gives him the 7th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. No one else was under 50, but the top 7 were all under 50.8 with Frankfort's Keiton Nestor and Philip Barbour's Isaiah Starks under 50.25.

800 Meter Run
This one was very close with Williamstown's Vincent Zegrea leading the field out of the break. At 300 Meters, it was the trio of Williamstown runners leading the field running 3-wide. On the final stretch, Tyler Consolidated's Amos Kimble just edged past Zegrea with about 5 meters to go to take the win 2:00.30 to 2:00.35. Doddridge's Colton Key used a big final lap to move from 10th to 3rd in 2:02.65. Frankfort's Gavin McDonald was the only other one to go under 2:04 with a 2:03.33. Lap 1 - Zegrea, Pickering, Erlandson, Kimble, McDonald, Sias, Myers, Blackshire. Finish - Kimble, Zegrea, Key, McDonald, Pickering, Watson, Myers, Moore.

1600 Meter Run
Tyler Consolidated's Amos Kimble took the early lead, stretched it to almost 5 seconds by the end of the 2nd lap and over 7 seconds by the end of 3. He was able to cruise home the final lap to save for the 800, still taking the win by over 2 seconds with a 4:29.21. Frankfort's Gavin McDonald took the 2nd spot in 4:31.60. Tyler Consolidated's Travis Moore moved into 3rd on the final lap to finish in 4:33.15 with Independence's Jeffery Watson taking 4th in 4:34.04. They were over 5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Lap 1 - Kimble, Jackson, Pettry, McDonald, Moore, Watson, Ferguson, Lane. Lap 2 - Kimble, McDonald, Pettry, Jackson, Moore, Watson, Erlandson, Ferguson. Lap 3 - Kimble, McDonald, Pettry, Moore, Watson, Swentzel, Wilburn, Jackson. Finish - Kimble, McDonald, Moore, Watson, Swentzel, Pettry, Jackson, Wilburn.

3200 Meter Run
Tyler Consolidated's Amos Kimble started to pull away on lap 4, coming through in 4:44, and extended the lead to over 7 second on lap 5. He'd go on to cruise to a 9:26.48, winning by over 15 seconds. Frankfort's Gavin McDonald easily held the 2nd spot in 9:42.11 with Tyler Consolidated's Travis Moore taking 3rd in 9:57.09. No one else was under 10:00. Lap 1 - Kimble, McDonald, Pettry, Moore, Watson, Alexander, Jackson, Wilburn. Lap 2 - Kimble, McDonald, Pettry, Moore, Watson, Alexander, Jackson, Bott. Lap 3 - Kimble, McDonald, Watson, Pettry, Moore, Alexander, Jackson, Wilburn. Lap 4 - Kimble, McDonald, Watson, Moore, Pettry, Bott, Alexander, Wilburn. Lap 5 - Kimble, McDonald, Watson, Moore, Bott, Wilburn, Alexander, Pettry. Lap 6 - Kimble, McDonald, Watson, Moore, Bott, Wilburn, Alexander, Miller. Lap 7 - Kimble, McDonald, Watson, Moore, Bott, Wilburn, Alexander, Swentzel. Finish - Kimble, McDonald, Moore, Watson, Wiburn, Alexander, Bott, Swentzel.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Independence's Christian Linksweiler took over early and won convincingly in 15.21. Oak Glen's Logan Murray was easily 2nd in 15.58 with no one else under 16 seconds. Doddridge's Brycen Eidel just missed that mark in 3rd with a 16.05. One of the finalists false started, so we only had 7 placers.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Independence's Christian Linksweiler cleared the final hurdle cleanly to squeak out the victory in 40.27. Frankfort's Bryson Grady was slightly in the lead but clipped the final hurdle and finished 2nd in 40.42. No one else was under 41 seconds. James Monroe's Conner Dillon was easily in 3rd at 41.13, nearly 0.7 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

4x100 Meter Relay
Independence got out well on leg 1 and carried it through to the finish line with the group of Kaden Bradbury, Michael Hell, Carson Treadway, and Taylor Dove taking the win in a very strong 43.10. That is the 2nd Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Frankfort ran a very strong 2nd in 43.83. Doddridge held off Weir for 3rd, 44.26 to 44.32. The Top 7 were all under 45.0. One of my predicted placer did not finish.

4x200 Meter Relay
Frankfort pulled away in the final 100 of a close race with Bluefield to take give the squad of Eli Hesse, Van Ritchie, Noah Waver, and Keiton Nestor the win in 1:31.56. Bluefield easily held the 2nd spot in 1:32.24. Wyoming East got past Doddridge for 3rd, 1:33.19 to 1:33.56. No one else was under 1:35. Again one of my predicted placers did not finish.

4x400 Meter Relay
Doddridge had the lead through the 1st leg. Frankfort moved to the lead on the 2nd leg, and they'd hold it the rest of the way, giving the unit of Landon Hartley, Dawson Arbogast, Van Ritchie, and Keiton Nestor the win in 3:30.13. Sissonville snagged 2nd out of Heat 1 in 3:32.40. Doddridge was 3rd in 3:32.88. Independence was 4th in 3:34.54.

4x800 Meter Relay
Williamstown got out to the early lead on a 2:01 opening leg, putting them up over 3.5 seconds. Doddridge was in 2nd. It was the same 2 teams at the end of 2. On the 3rd leg, Doddridge moved to the front but just under 1.5 seconds, but Williamstown quickly closed that gap and retook the lead, and Vincent Zegrea held off a late push from Doddridge to secure the win for the foursome of Chase Pickering, Jimmy Erlandson, Gavin Wilburn, and Vincent Zegrea the win in 8:14.14. Doddridge easily held the 2nd spot in 8:15.36 with only Tyler Consolidated (8:25.24) and Frankfort (8:26.82) under 8:43 among the rest of the field.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
This was a close race throughout. Frankfort had a slight edge on the first leg but had a very conservative exchange, letting Lincoln take the lead. Frankfort took the lead back over in the 2nd half of the 2nd leg. Lincoln took the lead very late in the 3rd leg. Lincoln had a very slight lead when Frankfort's anchor went down over the 2nd hurdle, and then Doddridge got a sizzling anchor leg from Brycen Eidel to steal the win over the final 2 hurdles to give the team of Will Adams, Trey McDonough, Nathanael Lloyd, and Brycen Eidel the win in 59.90. Lincoln was 2nd in 1:00.18. Only Braxton was under 1:02 among the rest of the field. One of my predicted placers was disqualified.

High Jump
Independence's Carson Treadway was sitting in 3rd place as he readied to attempt 6'2 for the 3rd time. Up and over, and he goes from 3rd to 1st as the other two were unable to clear the mark. Philip Barbour's Malachi Poling and Lincoln's Connor Rice were the only others to clear 6'0 in taking the next 2 spots.

Pole Vault
This was almost idential to the High Jump. Doddridge's Trey McDonough was sitting in 3rd place after clearing 13'0 on his 3rd attempt. He was able to clear 13'6 on his 2nd attempt, though, and the other two remaining competitors could not. This was a Doddridge party as the other two competitors were McDonough's teammates Tristan Swiger and Nathanael Lloyd whose 13'0 clearances tied them for 2nd and gave Doddridge a big 1-2-3 finish in the event. No one else cleared higher than 12'0. Three other cleared that height.

Long Jump
Doddridge's Tommy Walters-Hickman went 21'6.75 on his 1st attemp, which held up throughout, but he took his final jump with the win in hand and bettered that with a 21'10.50 mark which gives him a tie for the 10th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Oak Glen's Logan Murray secured 2nd place on his 2nd attempt but better that mark twice with his best leap of 21'3 coming on his 5th attempt. Doddridge's Tristan Swiger grabbed a surprised 3rd with a 20'8 leap on his 2nd attempt. Only 2 others surpassed 20'0 but all 8 placers were at 19'11 or better with 5th through 8th separated by just 2".

Shot Put
Oak Glen's Orien Bone only had 2 legal throws, but both were enough to win the event by over 3 1/2 feet. His top throw of 55'11 came on his first attempt and is the 9th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Sissonville's Charles Swain was also over 50' in 2nd place with a throw of 50'4. Williamstown's Christian Lockhart scored 3rd with a 48'10.75 on his 4th attempt. James Monroe's Brock Parker was 4th with a 47'7. Only one other thrower was over 46'0.

Discus
Williamstown's Christian Hoosier dominated the event. He had 3 throws that were over 16' better than anyone else's best. He saved the best for last sending the implement 167'0 on his final attempt. Sissonville's Charles Swain was sitting in 9th when he sent his final toss 140'9 to improve his mark by over 19' and move from 9th to 2nd. Doddridge teammates Aaron Glaspell and Jaden Solomon took the next two spots.

The final score of 121 of 143 means that 84.6% of the people picked to place did indeed place. That's 5 better than last year. I did get all 8 placers in the 100, 300 IH, 4x800, and Shot Put. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
